The Oconto Site is uniquely significant as the only one in the Upper Great Lakes region with a museum dedicated to telling this remarkable prehistoric story. The Open House will feature a refreshments tent and an Ancient Native American Artifacts Identification table in the front garden, where area collectors are invited to bring items for review. The museum, housed in a charming, intricately bricked farmhouse built over 100 years ago in Old World Belgian style, now boasts beautifully preserved maple floors and a thoughtfully enhanced double-sided fireplace featuring hand-painted panels by local artist Bruce Retzlaff. Operated by the Oconto County Historical Society, the Copper Culture Museum is open daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 10 AM to 4 PM, and by appointment during spring and fall.
