Discover a peaceful walk through history on the newly cut hiking trails leading to the historic Lindsey Cemetery, located at the east end of 5th Street in Oconto. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Oconto Sportsmen’s Club and the Oconto County Historical Society, visitors can now explore the approximate half-mile routes to this sacred site.
This tranquil spot is the burial location of Thomas Lindsey, who, along with his family, became the first settlers in 1846 as what was to become the City of Oconto. His original home stood near the monument you'll find there, marking a significant piece of the city's foundational heritage. Enjoy the quiet beauty of Lindsey Field and step back in time. Please remember to respect the cemetery grounds, and note that no motorized vehicles are permitted on the trails.
