The Slippery Rock Slide Experience
Slippery Rock, Chute Pond, WI
This isn’t just any swimming hole; it’s a natural rock formation the Oconto River has sculpted into an incredible waterslide.
Picture this: you find your spot at the top of the smooth rock, where the water begins its journey. Then, you gently push off, gliding down a naturally carved “vee” shape. A thick, soft bed of algae under the flowing water acts like Mother Nature’s own Slip ‘n’ Slide, ensuring a smooth ride. As you descend, feeling the cool water rush by, the excitement builds until you splash down into the refreshing pool below. With an estimated drop of 10-15 feet, it’s an exhilarating plunge that will leave you grinning and ready for another go.
Beyond the Slide: A Natural Paradise
While Slippery Rock is undoubtedly the star, it’s part of the larger, 418-acre Chute Pond. This area is a true haven for water enthusiasts and outdoor lovers, offering a wide array of activities:
Sandy Beach: Perfect for sunbathing or a refreshing dip.
Boating: Enjoy fishing, water-skiing, jet-skiing, and paddling across the expansive pond.Chute Pond Dam View, taken Fall 2024
The Chute Pond Spillway: Don’t miss the impressive dam near the parking area. The water thundering out of the spillway is powerful enough you can feel it thumping through your shoes from atop the dam. It’s an awesome sight showcasing the Oconto River.
